Due to the resignation of Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, who won from two seats including the Kathirkamam seat in the April Assembly election and later quit the Indira Nagar seat.
By election is to be held on October 13, 2011 (Thursday). The candidates are A Tamilselvan (AINRC), Baskaran (AIADMK), Aarumugam (Congress), Vaithiyanathan (Bahujan Samaj Party), Shanmugam (IJK), Tamilselvam (Independent candidate).
Two companies of Central Industrial Security Forces were deployed for election duty in the constituency. Electoral photo identity cards and voters slip with photos are mandatory for casting votes.
In Indira Nagar there are 28 booths. Polling starts at morning 8:00 AM and ends by evening 5:00 PM. After polling the Electronic Voting Machines would be kept in the strong room at the Bharathidasan Government College for Women. The votes would be counted on October 17, 2011 (Monday).
