On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the de jure transfer of the French Establishments in India to the Union of India (August 1962), the Pavillon de France à Auroville and the Central University of Pondicherry (Centre for European Studies) are organizing a two-day seminar on the theme 'The Treaty of Cession (1962) - Fifty Years Later, Pondicherry and France.'
According to a release from Auroville today, the seminar will be held at the MMC (Town Hall) on November 16 and 17, 2012. Consul General of France in Puducherry Pierre Fournier will inaugurate the seminar.
The event is being organized with the financial support of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, and in partnership with the National Archives of India, INTACH (Puducherry Chapter).
As part of the seminar an exhibition on the Architecture of Puducherry prepared by INTACH(Puducherry chapter), an Odissi dance performance by Mr Rekha Tandon, Smiti and Shrishti blended with recitation of French and Indian Classics, and an exhibition organized on the de jure transfer of the French Establishments to the Union of India prepared by the National Archives of India (Puducherry Record Centre) will be there.
