Private airline services in Pondicherry soon…

Minister for Tourism P. Rajavelu said the territorial administration had started negotiations with private airlines to start service from Puducherry. Government had established contact with a few airlines, which were known for operating smaller aircraft. Some of them had expressed inclination to start service from Puducherry. Spicejet and Indigo airlines had been approached by the government.

Delay over completion of works at airport: Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials had said that more than 90 per cent of works had already been completed. Remaining works would be completed within a month.

Few airlines had already completed feasibility studies for operating air services. The results showed that it was economically and commercially viable to operate smaller aircraft with the seating capacity between 50 to 72 passengers in the sector connecting Puducherry. A few routes including Puducherry-Bangalore were identified as suitable and viable routes.
