Pondicherry gears up to Welcome the Prime Minister


The Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh is making his first official visit to Puducherry. The town is gearing up to receive the highest official. Security arrangements are in full swing throughout the city. Night patrolling vehicles are being pressed into action. Roads are being renovated. Officials of different departments including the police have been monitoring all activities related to the PM's visit. He will also visit the Pondicherry Central University on the 29th of June by a special helicopter and attend a function there. He will then visit Raj Nivas and meet the Chief Minister Rangasamy.

The next day the PM will participate in the third convocation of JIPMER and inaugurate the 426 bed women's and children's hospital with a constructed area of 28,300 sq.mt, a teaching block with a plinth area of 17,000 sq.mt. and hostel complex with facilities to accommodate nearly 1100 students. The entire project cost is Rs. 342 crore. The PM will deliver the convocation address and inaugurate the new facilities. Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad, Hon'ble Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare, and Shri V.Narayanasamy, Hon'ble Union Minister of State for Prime Minister's Office, Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions will also participate. Dr. Iqbal Singh, His Excellency the Lieutentant Goverrnor Of Puducherry, Shri N. Rangasamy, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Puducherry, Secretary to Govt. of India (Health), and Dr. N.K. Ganguly, President of JIPMER, will also he taking part. Degrees will be conferred on 311 candidates during the convocation including 7 PhDs. 86 MDs.
