The overall pass percentage in SSLC examination in Puducherry has gone up to 91.67 percent this year from 88.13 last year.
Announcing the results at a press conference here on Monday, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy said girls outshone boys in overall pass percentage, boasting a figure of 89.41 percent to the 83.39 percent of boys.
The results show that there is a marked improvement in the performance of government schools with 18 schools registering 100 percent passes when compared with nine schools the previous year.
Puducherry region registered a pass percentage of 88.08 followed by Karaikal with 80.97 percent.
Mr Rangasamy announced that the government would directly pay the tuition fees to students selected under the government quota in professional colleges in the Union territory. This modified system would come into force from this academic year, he said.
T. Kayalvizhi of Don Bosco Matriculation School, Lawspet secured the state first rank in Puducherry and second rank in Tamil Nadu with a score of 496 marks. “My parents were with me throughout and encouraged me a lot during my class 10. I want to gain entry into the medical profession and so I am going to take the biology group,” she said.
The second rank was secured by R. Gowtham, a student of Petit Seminaire HSS, Puducherry, with 493 marks. Son of Rajasekhar, a field supervisor in the agriculture department, and Shanthi, an economics Lecturer, Gowtham wants to become an agricultural scientist.
The third rank was bagged by a student of St Joseph of Cluny HSS, Puducherry, A.B. Tanushree with 492 marks. Daughter of Dr Badrinath, professor in the Manakula Vinayagar Medical College, Tanushree, also wants to become a doctor.
